Featured Vermont Projects

Vermont State House

 Montpelier, VT

The Vermont State House is the one of the nation’s most meticulously preserved state capitol buildings. Nick Artim, RAN’s heritage protection expert, has been responsible for a number of fire engineering services including engineering minimally obtrusive, high sensitivity smoke detection and emergency notification systems, evaluating and identifying methods to improve the fire issuance of the historic fabric, and identifying methods to comply with contemporary egress standards without damaging the building’s historic integrity.

Burlington Sheraton Hotel

Burlington, VT

Sheraton Burlington Hotel & Conference Center is Vermont’s largest hotel with 309 rooms and a conference center. It is located only a few minutes from downtown businesses, shopping, and Lake Champlain. There are also 5 ski areas within an hour of the hotel. One of the hotels services offers free shuttles to the Burlington International Airport to make in convenient for guests.

RAN Fire Protection Engineering provided consulting services for the smoke management systems at the Sheraton Burlington Hotel & Conference Center. RAN developed a detail code analysis which established criteria for obtaining a conditional certificate of occupancy. RAN developed the performance criteria for the existing smoke management system and outlined the parameters for the functional test. The work culminated in the granting of a full certification of occupancy.

Vermont Air National Guard

South Burlington, VT

RAN Fire Protection Engineering provided fire protection engineering support for the commissioning of the emergency voice communication and fire alarm mass notification systems serving aircraft maintenance facilities associated with the F-35 Phase 1 Building 150 project. RAN reviewed testing procedures and submittals prepared by the system contractor, provided technical comments to address specification compliance, and issued review approvals for final commissioning documentation submitted to the Engineer of Record.

RAN also supported system troubleshooting and coordinated with multiple engineering disciplines and trades to resolve integration issues and verify proper operation of the fire alarm and mass notification systems. This work helped ensure the facility’s life safety systems were operational in advance of aircraft transition activities, supporting the Vermont Air National Guard’s conversion from F-16 aircraft to the F-35A fighter program.
