Texas City, TX
RAN Fire Protection Engineering provided comprehensive fire protection design and construction administration services for Momentive Performance Materials, a plant located in Texas City, Texas. The project involved the design of a new fire pump house, intended to house a 5,000 gallons per minute (gpm) at 150 pounds per square inch (psi) fire pump, along with a new 12-inch water loop and associated hydrants throughout the facility. A sprinkler system was also designed for the pump house per NFPA-20 and NFPA-13 requirements, as well as a fire alarm system. RAN’s role encompassed site documentation, development of detailed construction documents for bidding and permitting, bid phase support, and construction administration, culminating in a final site visit and punch list.
Houston, TX
RAN Fire Protection Engineering was engaged by Siemens Energy Inc to provide fire protection consulting services for a building at their plant in Houston, TX. This building is critical for the production, repair, shipping, and storage of high-value turbine rotors. The project’s focus was to conduct a Fire Protection System Basis of Design (BOD) Study, prompted by a fire risk insurer’s demand for a fire protection system in the currently unsprinklered building. RAN’s expertise was utilized to assess the existing fire safety concerns, evaluate municipal water supply capabilities, and propose water-based fire protection system options, considering the sensitivity of the rotors to water damage. The study aimed to provide SEI with comprehensive recommendations to enhance fire safety and ensure compliance, ultimately reducing risk and protecting valuable assets.
Grapevine, TX
RAN Fire Protection Engineering was engaged by the City of Grapevine to provide specialized fire protection consulting services for a building located at 1722 Minters Chapel #300-E2. The project’s primary context involved addressing non-compliant high-piled combustible storage within the building, which notably lacks a sprinkler system. RAN’s role focused on leveraging expertise to help the City resolve critical fire safety concerns. This included reviewing the Grapevine Fire Department’s Certificate of Occupancy Inspection Result and analyzing photographic evidence of the storage. RAN provided a professional opinion in a written letter, clearly referencing the applicable sections of the Fire Code and relevant city ordinances. This delivered essential technical assistance, ensuring compliance and enhancing overall safety for the building.
