Doug Nadeau, PE is the President of RAN Fire Protection Engineering, P.C. and the Vice President of truVUE Inspection Technologies. Doug is a licensed fire protection engineer, Certified Fire Protection Specialist, and LEED Accredited Professional. His education includes a Bachelor of Science in both Mechanical Engineering and Physics, along with a Master of Science in Fire Protection Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He began his career in Boston, designing fire protection systems for high-rise buildings of both a prescriptive- and performance-based nature.
He founded RAN in 2010 and has since been recognized as a leader in the field of fire protection engineering. His responsibilities include design of fire protection as well as with serving as the primary business and marketing officer for the firm. Mr. Nadeau provides technical support and guidance to building owners, facility management, and staff on all fire protection-related issues. His experience ranges from design, coordination, and management of the firm’s fire protection projects to executive responsibilities in all aspects of the firm’s work.
He has been a professor in fire protection technology programs at both John Jay College and Schenectady County Community College, and has also taught fire protection design at UCLA. Mr. Nadeau is an honorary member of the Salamander Honorary Fire Protection Engineering Society, which recognizes his work as one of the top fire protection engineers in the world. Mr. Nadeau is a 2008 recipient of the 40 Under 40 Award by Consulting-Specifying Engineer magazine.
Christopher Crivello, PE is a Principal and licensed Fire Protection Project Engineer and partner at RAN Fire Protection Engineering, P.C. Chris received his Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Fire Protection Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
In his role as a Principal Engineer, he is responsible for project management, guaranteeing on-time project delivery and adherence to high quality standards. quality. As a lead Professional Engineer, his responsibilities include designing fire protection systems, contract drawings and specifications, as well as project coordination and cost estimating. Mr.Crivello generally specializes in fire suppression and fire alarm design, but also provides code consultation for clients. During the construction phase, he performs submittal reviews and addresses field changes to assure projects are built in accordance with building plans.
Demonstrating exceptional expertise and leadership in fire protection, he has been recognized with multiple awards: the 2017 National Fire Sprinkler Association Top Tech Champion, the 2018 American Fire Sprinkler Association Young Professional of the Year, the 2020 Consulting-Specifying Engineer 40 Under 40, and the 2023 SFPE Global 5 Under 35 Award.
He is also a member of the Salamander Society, an honor granted to those who have distinguished themselves in the discipline, and who have demonstrated exceptional achievement and contributions to the field.
Nick Artim, PE is an expert in preservation of historically significant buildings and artifacts. His work spans the U.S., Canada, Europe, and beyond, including projects for UNESCO World Heritage Sites, national parks, presidential homes, and major museums and archives. His expertise is not limited to historical buildings, and he uses his 30 years of experience to apply this knowledge to all types of buildings. He is based in Vermont and helps to increase RAN’s presence in northern New England. After owning his company, the Heritage Protection Group, he decided to join RAN to increase his capacity to provide fire protection engineering services for more sites and a wider variety of building types.
Mr. Anderson, a seasoned Registered Professional Fire
Protection Engineer, boasts over 30 years of expertise in fire
protection engineering and consulting. His extensive experience
encompasses building plan reviews and inspections for
compliance with fire, building, and life safety codes; preparation
of hazardous materials compliance reports and inventory
statements for fire code adherence; and application of UFC 3-600
fire protection standards for federal construction projects.
Proficient in fire alarm, fire sprinkler, and specialized suppression
systems, Mr. Anderson is adept at specification, review,
inspection, and failure analysis.
Currently serving as a Principal Fire Protection Engineer with
RAN Fire Protection Engineering, he delivers fire protection
consulting services across the U.S., covering areas such as code
consulting, fire system design, hazardous materials compliance,
performance-based designs, forensic analysis, and negotiations
with authorities.
Previously, as Fire Protection Engineer/Fire Code Official with the
Tacoma Fire Department, he led the plan review and construction
inspection unit. His responsibilities included overseeing
inspections of fire protection systems, analyzing and approving
performance-based designs, evaluating buildings for compliance,
and drafting state and local fire code amendments
Tim has an Associate of Applied Science in Fire Protection Technology from Monroe Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland. Tim has been a fire protection engineer for over thirty-seven years and brings a huge depth of specialized technical, business and client experience to the RAN team.
In his years of experience, he has completed a significant number of projects for the private and public sectors. He has designed fire protection systems and consulted on fire and life safety matters for an impressive variety of buildings and processes. He approaches projects holistically and with a critical eye for a client’s business success, all while maintaining fire safety through use of technical solutions.
Tim has provided studies, reports,detailed engineering designs of fire protection systems and building overall fire safety, and expert witness services for numerous clients across the U.S. as well as Australia and New Zealand. He is extremely proficient with the application and interpretation of the International Code Council (ICC) codes, NFPA and insurer standards, historical code analysis and performance-based design equivalencies and alternative methods.
The experience Mr. DeRuyscher earned throughout his successful career was acknowledged by his peers in the Society of Fire Protection Engineers by conferring him as a Fellow in the international professional society. Furthermore, he was appointed by the Governor as the Professional Engineer representative member on the New York State Fire Prevention and Building Code Council for promulgation and adoption of codes and standards for New York.
Mike has a Bachelor of Science Fire Protection Engineering University of Maryland at College Park. Before joining the RAN team, Mike owned his own fire protection engineering firm for over ten years. His expertise and experience were a huge asset in growing our Texas presence. He has completed projects in a variety of markets within the private and public sectors, and has significant experience providing a diverse range of services.
Between Mr. Klemenz’s experience in design and in code, he is able to take a holistic approach to fire protection engineering. This especially comes into play with design/build projects and obtaining variances from local Authorities having Jurisdiction. This approach benefits the client as well as the public because it means that the building owner can have their vision realized while occupants will be safe in case of a fire event.
His years serving as a firefighter provides a practical understanding of fire behavior, complementing his technical skills and enhancing his ability to understand the best methods for fire protection in different scenarios. His experience as a U.S. Navy Civilian Fire Protection Engineer provides him with valuable insight into federal government operations, which is highly advantageous for overseeing federal projects.
Mike is a dedicated educator, actively sharing his extensive fire protection expertise. He served as adjunct faculty at SUNY Onondaga Community College, instructing Fire Protection Technology, and gives presentations for the Society of Fire Protection Engineers. His passion for sharing knowledge extends to publications, with his insightful articles featured in FASNY’s The Volunteer Firefighter Magazine.
Jerry Shultz has over 40 years’ experience in providing fire protection engineering consultation services to architectural/engineering firms, governmental agencies, attorneys, owners, and insurance/risk management entities.
His areas of expertise are fire alarm system design, automatic sprinkler system design, evaluation of existing fire protection equipment, building and fire code compliance, analysis of system response under fire conditions and code consulting on major projects. He has extensive experience and expertise in the storage industry.
He is a recognized speaker on fire protection and has given several talks on warehouse design. Furthermore, he is an alternate member on the Discharge Committee of NFPA 13, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems. Jerry was the principle and cofounder of the Fire Protection Consortium Inc, a full-service professional security and fire protection consulting and engineering firm founded in 2001. Jerry joined RAN as a principal in April 2025 following the merger of RAN and the Fire Protection Consortium Inc.
