2024 Wrapped!

Happy New Year! Here is a recap of 2024, which was a busy year for RAN Fire Protection Engineering. Across our offices we worked on well over 100 projects and added another office to expand RAN's reach.

We would like to express gratitude to our clients for their unwavering loyalty and trusting us to provide expert fire protection engineering. We take a lot of pride in knowing that our clients are highly satisfied with the services we provide.

Gulf Tower

Our fire protection engineering expertise means we are qualified to work on all types of buildings. 2024 saw us working in all types of markets, some examples include high rise, historical, correctional, Industrial, healthcare and libraries. No project has been too challenging or complex for RAN engineers!

Our Rochester office is going from strength to strength. Some examples of exciting projects include designing the fire pump for the Gulf Tower high rise in Pittsburgh and upgrading the sprinkler system at the NYS State Fair.

2024 saw us expand and open a new office in Fort Worth Texas. The Texas office is led by Mike Klemenz who had significant fire protection engineering experience prior to joining us. His wealth of knowledge and expertise have made him a great addition to the RAN team.

Christopher Crivello and Gillian Nadeau were inducted into Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s Salamander Fire Protection Engineering Honor Society! This honor was granted to them because they have distinguished themselves in the discipline of fire protection and they have demonstrated exceptional leadership skills.

Our Rochester Office had four fire protection design interns at various points in 2024, Crea, CJ, Gunnar and Ben. Gunnar is student at Worcester Polytechnic Institute majoring in mechanical engineering, and Ben, Crea, and CJ are students at Rochester Institute of Technology also majoring in mechanical engineering. They were not very familiar with the fire protection industry prior to the internships but the hands-on approach offered by RAN ensured that they learned lots of new skills. Their eagerness to learn, work ethic, and engineering talent made them great assets for RAN.

Our Albany office was joined by Brianna, who is majoring in marketing at Siena College. Briana had no prior knowledge about the fire protection industry, but she has developed her knowledge through lots of research for blog posts and social media. She has been a huge help with our digital marketing efforts, as well as creating our project sheets, which are hugely important because they demonstrate the expertise and skills involved in our projects.

RAN employees have attended events in New York State and beyond. Our business development director Jen Shannon and Senior Fire Protection Engineer Michael Klemenz attended the ASPE Convention & Expo in Columbus, Ohio. Here they showcased our cutting-edge fire protection engineering services and solutions and networked with many other industry professionals.

Jen also attended two careers’ fairs at Worcester Polytechnic Institute along with Sam Wile, and then with Patrick Ethier, both fire protection designers. Here they connected with lots of intelligent and ambitious students who were interested in learning about how RAN contributes to the fire protection engineering industry.

Sean Feeney, PE, Gillian Nadeau & Patrick Ethier presented their Yellowstone project poster at the NFPA conference. For the project they spent two weeks in Yellowstone, surveying buildings and learning about the historical significance of Yellowstone, its features, buildings, and also the park emergency responses and operations.

They created a fire and life safety report of the

Fishing Bridge General Store, which was

constructed in 1931. The team developed life safety, business continuity, and historic preservation goals for the existing building, in order to align with the fire safety objectives of the National Park Service. A combination of fire protection engineering, performance-based design, analysis, and prescriptive code provisions were utilized to meet the established goals and provide a basis for future building upgrades.

In December we had the RAN holiday party. The Rochester and Texas offices joined the Albany office for a night of celebration and fun which was well deserved after a year of incredible hard work.

2024 was a great year for RAN and we are preparing for even more growth and success in 2025!
